It’s one of Queensland’s adventure capitals. Stradbroke Island is one place where the development of the modern world has stayed away enabling it to remain an untouched holiday destination where you really feel like you getaway.

Australian wildlife at its best

North Stradbroke Island showcases wildlife that is native to Australia every day of your holiday. You will see:

  • Koalas – Australia’s iconic mammal that live among the Gum Trees
  • Lorikeets – playful, energetic birds that are covered in colours like a rainbow and love eating nectar and fruit
  • Cockatoos – a large noisy white parrot with a dark grey bill and distinctive yellow crest native to Australia
  • Kurlus – nocturnal birds that have a unique calling noise and hunt frogs, spiders, insects, snakes and lizards
  • Kookaburras – a laughing bird that you can recognize immediately; you will hear them before the rain comes.

…in their native environment, untouched and living, eating and interacting the way they always have; undisturbed.

Get up close and personal with the dolphins that surround Stradbroke Island

North Stradbroke Island and particularly Amity Point is surrounded by a large dolphin population. All you have to do is sit by the water at Amity Point and you’re bound to see a pod of dolphins swim past. However, the most spectacular way to watch the dolphins interacting in their natural habitat is at night by our jetty.

Every night the jetty’s along Amity Point turn their lights on for night fishing and the dolphins flock in like bees to honey because they know they can pick up some extra food from the bait leftovers. These incredibly social creatures will even turn tricks, flips and summer salts in the hope of an easy feed. A truly unforgettable experience.

Prime whale watching from June until November

North Stradbroke Island is renowned for delivering a prime whale watching season year after year. Every June to November you can witness hump back whales making their journey north to calve. The best views can be found from:

  • The North Gorge Walk at Point Lookout,
  • Frenchman’s Bay on Timbin Road,
  • Cylinder Headland and
  • The Stradbroke Beach Hotel.

Be sure to witness this spectacular display of nature.
